The register does not publish licence numbers
Which means almost every licence number quoted about a Ghanaian bookmaker cannot be checked against anything. Four brands in this market have conflicting numbers in circulation, and one has two different numbers on its own surfaces.
What the register does publish
The Gaming Commission of Ghana publishes a list of licensed operators carrying the trading name, the operation type and the licence dates. Checking a bookmaker means finding its trading name on that list, which is a real check and takes a minute.

What a licence number on a page is worth
Very little on its own. Since the register carries no numbers, a number on a footer can be compared only against other copies of itself. In this market that comparison fails often: one brand's own site and its own store listing give different numbers, two review sites disagree with each other by a single digit about a third brand, and one operator's terms name the regulator and state no number at all.

The thing worth reading after the licence
A licence tells you somebody can be complained to. It tells you nothing about what the operator's own terms reserve the right to do to a winning account, and those terms are public. Several books in this market publish clauses permitting account closure at any time for any reason or for none, and at least one publishes a mechanism reducing payouts on a day when the book has paid out too much.
Those clauses are ordinary in this industry, and reading them before depositing is the only version of due diligence available to a customer. They are on each bookmaker's own terms page.
Licences, asked plainly
- How do I check a bookmaker is licensed in Ghana?
- Look up the trading name on the Gaming Commission of Ghana's own list of licensed operators. That is the check. A licence number printed on a bookmaker's footer or on a review site is not a check, because the register does not publish numbers to compare it against.
- What does two licences mean?
- Usually sports betting and online casino held separately. Four of the books here hold two entries, and the split is why one licensed casino in this market runs no sportsbook at all and its own platform has the sportsbook module switched off.
- A site is licensed. Does that mean my money is safe?
- It means there is somebody to complain to and a licence that can be lost, which is not nothing and is not a guarantee. Read what the operator’s own terms reserve the right to do, particularly around closing accounts and withholding contested funds, because those clauses are published and are where the real risk to a winner sits.
